When commercial software companies develop new programs or
application suites, they go through a series of stages including requirements
planning, high level design, low-level design, development, testing, beta
trialling and full release.
Sometimes, beta trial, test, or evaluation copies of software are
issued on a no-cost basis to certain communities, companies or individuals strictly
for the purposes of evaluation and bug tracing. The issue of this software
will typically be on the basis that the software is not to be re-sold or
re-distributed.
Consequently, eBay's policy relating to software
in the beta, test, or evaluation stages is that it must not be listed on eBay
as this would contravene the originating party’s commercial policies as well
as intellectual property rights and copyright.
Any listings which offer software of this nature may be ended
early by eBay and repeated occurrences could result in the seller’s account being
suspended.
