The whole basis of an online (or offline) auction is that the
seller agrees to sell and the buyer agrees to buy at a price and on the terms
and conditions that both parties agree to.
For eBay to continue as an enormously successful and largely
trusted marketplace, it is vital that the vast majority of transactions are
completed without either the buyer or the seller backing out of the bidding process.
So in overall terms, eBay has a policy that sellers should not
cancel bids on their auctions.
The exceptions to this rule are:-
- When a
bidder has contacted you and wishes to withdraw the bid.
- The bidder’s
identity can not be successfully verified even after following all the
standard and reasonable contact methods.
- Under
certain circumstances, where you end your listing before its duration
has finished.
So there is a process for bid cancellation, but be careful not to
use it unless you have a sound reason for doing so as eBay does monitor bid
cancellations closely.
