Want-it-Now

There are over 15 eBay sites across the world, each one with millions of individual items listed. So how do you find the specific item you want to buy? Well, most people choose to stay within their own country site, but don’t forget, you can browse other countries too and find some great bargains.

There are two basic ways to find the item you want to buy – searching and browsing. We’ll deal with search techniques in another section and here we concentrate on browsing.

Browsing through listings is best when you're not exactly certain what you're looking for. It’s a bit like visiting a major shopping mall and taking your time to look at what’s on offer – take a break for coffee and then do some more at your own pace.

eBay provides several different ways to browse through the millions of items for sale:-

  • As in most large shopping malls, there is a virtual map showing what sort of things you can find and where they are located. For eBay, this is known as the Browse Hub page which illustrates the different paths and routes that are available to you. Use this section to decide whether you want to go somewhere very specific or just wander about and see what’s out there.

  • There are around 30 main categories on eBay ranging from Antiques and Art to Toys & Games. If you want to buy in bulk, there is even a Wholesale category. Within each main category there are many sub categories – over 500 in all and each of these is again divided into mini categories. Just click on the top level and browse through until you find what’s of interest.

  • Unlike shopping in the high street, eBay items can be bought form anywhere in your own country and all over the world too. Browsing by region is a way of narrowing the view so you can see items in your own locality which is useful if, say, you want to buy a car, but only want to travel 100 miles or less to see it

  • You can browse different theme zones. Maybe you are a collector of 70’s retro stuff? The 70’s theme includes music, film, cars and a host of other categories from that era.

  • Some sellers are especially keen to promote their goods and pay a fee to have their items included in a highlighted area which can be browsed to find everything from pop stars’ limousines to houses for sale.

  • eBay has a special charities section so if you’d like to support your favourite charity but can’t get out to their local high street shop, then take a look here.

There is also a special category for eBay Shops where there are thousands of experienced sellers with everything from showers and conservatories through to MP3 and mobile phones. Every eBay shop has its’ buyer feedback available for you to view, so you can see what other buyers had to say about the items they purchased – and buy with confidence.
