It will probably come as no surprise to learn that eBay does not allow Counterfeit Currency or Stamps to be listed.

Under UK and Irish law, there are strict prohibitions regarding the sale or trading of counterfeit currency and stamps. This law also applies to any equipment or paraphernalia that has been designed to produce counterfeit financial instruments.

Financial instruments include paper money, coins, bonds, bank promissory notes, money orders and negotiable securities as well as postage stamps. The UK and Irish law concerning counterfeiting also extends to any foreign currency or stamps.

Consequently, counterfeit items are banned from eBay.

The only exception to this rule is for replicas that are clearly and indelibly marked as such with the words “copy” ”reproduction," or "replica" so that there can be no reasonable chance that they could be mistaken for genuine currency.

If you suspect that a listing is for counterfeit items, you should notify eBay through the Community Watch programme which is specifically for the reporting of prohibited, questionable or infringing items.

You might also like to take a look at eBay’s main site Help for the sections on Prohibited and Restricted Items and Counterfeit Items (ie including fake merchandise). You can get there via our search eBay link page
