In any eBay transaction, effective communication between buyer
and seller is very important. When buying from a seller overseas,
communication can be an even more critical aspect of ensuring a satisfactory
transaction.
Much of this communication is automated by eBay in the form of
Notifications that let buyers and sellers know the current status of a
transaction in terms of winning bid, price, payment etc. so both parties know
what to do next.
However, when you need to ask the seller a question about an item
prior to bidding or about delivery status after your purchase, then it’s up
to you to type the words!
eBay doesn’t offer a language translation service
but there are many free services readily available on the internet and these can
be very useful, providing you keep your message short, simple and
grammatically correct.
By default, it’s probably best to use English in communications
between different countries. Of course if you’re in the UK and dealing with a
purchase from eBay in the US there are not usually
too many problems although bear in mind that some commonly used words in England (for example the other
word for pencil eraser) have a completely different meaning in the USA!
