eBay is a community, equally as much as it is an online auction, and you’ll find there is a mass of useful information and help available from other members through the community chat boards on the main eBay site. You can get there through our link if you’d like to have a look.

The community discussion boards and chat forums are also a quick and effective means of connecting with other members to get tips, swap stories about your hobbies, or just to have some fun exchanging (clean!) jokes. Some of discussion boards and chat rooms have eBay staff who are there to give additional, help, support and guidance.

There are four main types of discussion board:-

  • As the name implies, Community Help Boards are mainly aimed at providing forums where you can ask questions if you are not sure about some aspect of how eBay works or policies or other matters related to specific eBay subjects.

  • The General Discussion Boards are intended to cover subjects on a wider scale outside of eBay operations – for example there is currently a thread entitled Natural Disaster & Relief Information, which includes discussions on fundraising and coordination of relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina and the Asian Earthquake.

  • The “New to eBay Board” is a discussion forum especially for people who have recently become members and may be feeling a little worried about some of the complexities of eBay as well as needing some basic support and guidance.

  • Fascinated by everything to do with antiques, art or pets? If so, then Category Specific Discussion Board is a place to find people with similar interests to swap news, tips and new ideas.

One thing you shouldn’t do though, is use the boards and chat rooms to publicise your own eBay listings – that is not an accepted practice and offenders risk having privileges withdrawn!
