Any buyer who visits your eBay shop can elect to subscribe to your mailing list and this can provide a very useful mechanism for targeting repeat business opportunities.

Creating an email for a marketing campaign is easy – from the "Manage My Shop" select "Email Marketing" and then click the button marked “Create Email”.

This facility is very flexible and includes features that make creating the content and style of your emails simple and rapid. You can also select who emails will be sent to, depending on which product lines they are interested in.

  • Choose who will receive the email - each of your mailing lists shows how many subscribers you have for that interest area. Buyers can be subscribed to several of your lists. You can select recipients according to their purchasing history, how long they have been a subscriber and, for example, only those who opened your previous email(s).

  • Next create the subject for your email. Remember to make the subject appropriate to the mailing list you are sending to, because if your reader thinks the email is “off topic”, he or she may decide to unsubscribe from further mailings.

  • If you have created a customised header for your shop, you can also include this with the email. The header is placed at the top of each email message and includes the logo you chose for your Shop, together with your Shop name and your nominated links to specific categories or pages.

  • The body of the message is up to you – try to think of content that will appeal to the audience you have selected for this campaign. Messages must not be more than 96k including eBay Shop HTML tags and pictures that are hosted on the eBay site.

  • You can insert a standard item list to promote your items and can also opt for a gallery view for greater impact. A maximum of 50 items can be displayed – which ones are presented depends on selection criteria that you specify,

  • There is a previewing facility so you can check on what it will look like to your recipients and also shows how many emails will be sent. Your shop fees include an allocation of emails which can be sent at no cost and if you have exceeded this number, a message will be displayed along with the amount that will be charged.

When you’re happy with how everything looks, just hit the “Send Email” button and your mailshot will be placed in the sending queue. At peak times, expect to wait up to about 4 hours before all the emails are delivered.
