Whilst many people choose to shop on eBay only within their own
country, an increasing number of members take advantage of the global nature
of eBay to buy internationally.
But when you do this, don't forget to check on
how payment needs to be made to the seller.
Whenever you view an international listing, eBay will display the
item price in the currency of its’ originating country and will also convert
this into the local currency where you are located.
So if you are based in the United Kingdom and are a member of
eBay UK, then viewing an item
that was originally listed on the eBay Belgium site will display the
price in both British Pounds Sterling, and also in Euros.
Be aware though that these currency conversions are approximate
and you must contact the seller to get the exact conversion for the final
price.
When you pay for an international item:-
- You are
obliged to pay the seller the agreed amount in the currency which the
seller specifies and using a payment method that the seller requires.
- If you
believe that there is a better payment method available to you and to the
seller, then contact them and make the suggestion. But remember, it is
the seller who is the one to make a final decision on this.
- Failing
all other international payment methods, an international money order can
be obtained at most high street banks to pay sellers safely.
- Probably
the best method of making International payments though, is through PayPal, as this mechanism provides automatic
currency conversion and provides safety features for both buyer and
seller.
Also remember that international transactions may involve additional
costs in the form of postage, insurance, import duty and VAT.
