Thousands of new members register with eBay every week and that’s
a good thing for all of us – to be part of a growing community.
But it is important that new users can be easily identified by
other eBay members so that they can be assisted in coming to terms with what
can often be a bewildering array of features, functions, procedures and data that
make up the eBay environment.
Next to the User ID for every new user, you will see the “shiny
new member” icon, which lets you know that the user registered with eBay sometime
within the last 30 days.
During this 30 day “apprenticeship” the new member is not allowed
to change their User ID or their email address. After the 30 period, eBay
automatically removes the new user icon.
Here are a few things to remember when dealing with a new user,
whether they are a buyer or a seller:-
- Be a
little more forgiving than usual if a new member doesn’t get everything
right first time. We all had to start with eBay sometime – just cast you
mind back to how you felt when making your first bid or placing your
first listing.
- But it’s
also important to learn as much as you can about the eBay member you want
to do business with. Be extra vigilant when you check out any feedback gained
by a new member. Does it look like it’s been gained too quickly; who has
given the feedback – check their feedback comments too and make sure
there is no illicit reciprocal feedback going on.
- If it’s a
new buyer, using PayPal as the payment mechanism is the strongly recommended
option.
- If it’s a
new seller and there is no feedback from other genuine buyers, then use
extra caution; but remember all sellers had to start sometime. If PayPal
is accepted, use that option – if not, use extreme caution.
During your time as a new member, please bear these things in
mind and expect a degree of caution from fellow eBayers.
By being courteous and professional, you’ll soon get those positive feedback
comments that are so important in building your good reputation in the eBay
community.
