So you’ve found an item you want to bid on – what’s next. Well, the first thing to do is check on the seller’s reputation. The vast majority of eBay’s members are honest and trustworthy, but you should always take a look at feedback before making the decision to bid.

Every time an eBay user buys or sells an item, they can leave a positive, negative or neutral feedback comment for the other member. These feedback comments and the feedback score (1 point for positive, zero points for neutral and -1 point for negative) are recorded on the member’s profile.

Each listing has a note of the feedback score next to the seller’s eBay ID and if you click on this number you will be taken to the detailed feedback pages where you can inspect all the feedback comments which have been left for that member.

Take a little time to check that the seller’s feedback comes from a variety of different buyers and it is often a good idea to take a quick look at the feedback from those other members too – simply click on their user IDs. Infrequently, sellers will get friends or associates to give them positive feedback, even if this is not deserved, so that they artificially create a positive feedback rating.
