Subscribers to eBay’s Selling Manager facility are provided with many tools aimed at helping high volume sellers to communicate more quickly and efficiently with their buyers.

Using the “Email Autotext” function allows you to create personalised messages to your buyers which automatically insert the contents of “key fields” into the body of the message. These details include, for example, the buyer's name and address, or the item reference number (complete with hyperlink), the closing price, the postage costs, as well as a range of other information.

For a complete list of the variables which can be included in the autotext function, please visit eBay’s Help pages (you can get to the eBay UK website via our link page.)

Here are the main steps you need to follow to insert auto text:-

  • Go to the “Sold” view, or the “Archived” view and click on the buyer's email address for the relevant item.

  • You will be taken to the “email buyer” page – select the Edit Template link and choose which template you wish to customise using the auto text function.

  • Position the cursor where you would like an auto text entry to be inserted and using the auto text pull-down list, you can choose which variable you’d like to insert.

  • When you click the Insert button, the auto text will be shown at the base of the message and will look like this - {BUYERUSERNAME} if you selected to insert the buyers name, or like this -  {TOTAL$} if you chose to insert the total selling price.

When the email is sent to your buyer, the {BUYERUSERNAME} field will be replaced by the buyer’s real name as recorded on their eBay contact details and {TOTAL$} will be replaced by the actual selling price for the item.
