As a member of the eBay community, you are entitled to privacy and confidentiality regarding your personal contact information including your name, postal address, email address and telephone number.

This information should only be used by a member for the purpose of communication with another eBay member in relation to an eBay transaction.

Publishing contact information for another member of eBayin  any online public area is not allowed by eBay’s policies (please also see the Help pages on eBay’s main website – there is a link here). If you become aware that your own, or another members details, have been made public, you should contact eBay Customer Support with details, including a link to the public forum URL.

As an example of what is not permitted – let’s say that a buyer is not satisfied with the quality of an item purchased from another member – the proper action is to follow eBay’s dispute procedure. But the disgruntled buyer (who will have been provided with the seller’s contact information as part of the standard buy/sell process) decides to post the real name, address and phone number on an internet chat room.

That would constitute a breach of eBay’s policy prohibiting contact information from being published and could result in suspension of the offending member’s account.

Some examples of “online public areas” are discussion boards, online groups, web pages, newsgroups and chat rooms. However, it’s worth noting that User IDs are not considered to be “personal contact information” by eBay.
