A few months ago, we bought a consignment of genuine Gucci
sunglasses from a bankrupt supplier and began to sell them through our eBay
shop. The items sold well and we quickly built up a good feedback record for
these high quality items.
But then we hit a problem, one of the buyers (in the USA) sent an email
claiming that the sunglasses were fake. We gave our assurances that the item
was genuine, but the buyer insisted they were not. So, not wishing to receive
negative feedback, we provided a full refund including return postage and
asked for the sunglasses to be mailed back to us.
We never received them and the buyer would not respond to our
emails. And then we noticed a curious thing, that same buyer ID was appearing
as a bidder on other sunglasses we had for sale. Suspicious?
So we did what most sellers would do – placed this buyer on the
list of blocked bidders. It only takes a minute to do this from the Selling View
and it makes sure that fraudulent buyers don’t catch you out for a second
time.
Naturally, we also reported the issue to eBay using the dispute
procedure because it is not sufficient only to block a buyer from your own
listings – if they’ve tried it once, they are likely to do it again with
other sellers unless their accounts are suspended by eBay.
