Want-it-Now

Often when you list an item it can be difficult to decide exactly which category is best. For example, a Subbuteo set (table-top football game) could be listed in the “Sports Memorabilia > Subbuteo” category, but it could also be relevant to the “Toys & Games > Vintage/Classic Toys” category.

If you are having difficulty deciding which category to list your item in, then remember that buyers will probably also face the same dilemma.

So eBay allows you to list your item in two categories to help solve this problem. You have to bear in mind though that listing in two categories will double your Insertion Fee and optional promotional features such as highlighting, bold, gallery pictures etc. will also be multiplied by 2.

However, generously, there is no fee doubling for Scheduled Listings and Home Page Featured promotions and only one Final Value Fee is charged.

There are two exceptions, where listing in two categories is not allowed and these are:-

  • Multiple-Item Auctions (otherwise known as Dutch Auctions). The alternative is, of course, to divide your identical multiple items into two (or more) lots and list them in different categories.

  • Don’t try to sell your car in both the “Cars” and the “Classic Cars” categories on eBay Motors – only a single category is permitted.

eBay does check on the appropriateness of categories chosen for listings and can make a change if they believe it necessary, so take a little time to make sure you select the best catergory(ies) where buyers will easily find your item.
