There are many reports in the media about increases in internet
fraud. So how can you feel secure when you are paying for items that you’ve
bought on eBay? Well, the first thing to bear in mind is that eBay has a
confidential record of the contact details (names, addresses, phone numbers
and usually bank account details) for all members, so any member who acts in
a fraudulent way can be traced and appropriate action taken. As a buyer you should be assured that the vast majority of eBay
sellers are perfectly honest and trustworthy. But there are also additional
measures which eBay implements that help make sure you can readily check on
the reputation of a seller before making a commitment to buy from them – and in
the rare even that something goes wrong you can be recompensed. Every time an eBay member buys something from an eBay seller,
they can leave online comments about how they handled the transaction. This
is known as feedback – each comment can be defined as positive (which adds
one point to the seller’s score); or neutral (zero points) or negative (which
deducts one point form the feedback score). So before you place a bid, you should check on the score to make
sure it is positive and also look at the detailed feedback from other buyers.
Consistently positive feedback is a good indication that the seller is
trustworthy and reliable. In the rare even that something does go wrong, eBay and PayPal
provide protection schemes to recompense buyers in the event that they
receive an item that was not as described by the seller, or receive nothing
at all. Ready for some eBay Shopping? You can search the eBay UK site here. |
