eBay’s policy prohibits sellers from using listing titles which do not accurately describe the item for sale, or which seek to mislead potential buyers. (Please also read the Help pages on the main eBay UK site – here is a link)

eBay strictly enforces this rule, and policy breaches can result in:-

  • The offending listing being cancel and forfeiture of listing fees.
  • Limitation of account privileges, up to an including temporary or permanent suspension.
  • PowerSeller status may be revoked.

Here are some examples of item titles that would not be permitted:-

  • “Gucci Sunglasses, Versace” – is inappropriate because it is not clear whether one or two items are for sale. It is probably a deceitful attempt to lead buyers using the search term “Versace Sunglasses” to this listing.

  • “S308 Megxon 12mp Digital Camera (not Sony 54XP)” – would be disallowed because the inclusion of “not” is clearly an attempt to deceive buyers searching for Sony items.

  • If an item is listed simply as “Megxon 12mp Digital Camera”, then the listing must be for the actual camera, not accessories, batteries or other peripheral goods.

By having this policy, eBay helps make sure that shopping is an enjoyable and productive experience for all members and that we are not misled by inappropriate listing titles.
