As a guiding principle, eBay does not permit the listing of items which enable or encourage infringement of copyrights or intellectual property. This prohibition also includes any listing or item which encourages the use of computer software or electronic devices that are designed to overcome copy-protection features.

Items that include hardware or software intended to enable users to make illicit copies by "ripping" copy-protected CD-ROMs, DVDs, CDs, video games or software programmes must not be listed on eBay. Here are a few examples of items that are not allowed to be listed on eBay:-

  • DVD “rip” software which enables unauthorised copying of "copy-protected" DVDs.
  • Software programs that “rip” CDs and allow users to make copies of protected video games, CD-ROMS or other software programs.
  • Books, pamphlets, eBooks or other information on the methods and techniques of illegally copying CDs, DVDs or software programs.

It is recommended that you also visit the eBay UK site (link is here) for further information on the following related topics:-

  • Prohibited & Restricted Items
  • Unauthorised Copying
  • “Bootleg” Recordings
  • Downloadable Information Media
  • Recordable (CD/DVD) Media
